Oil & Toil

I fantasize myself as an artist , painting away on the banks of a lake at peace with myself and the world. I have seen artists seated comfortably on the banks on the river Seine in Paris doing just that. I felt I could watch them for days - the lazy life, the confident brush strokes & a breath-taking painting taking shape right before my eyes. Those people looked like they weren't in a rat-race with time and that is something I yearn. Some of them were painting purely out of passion , for some others it was their profession. I believe that a hobby or an interest makes you slow down , sit up and take notice of the world passing by. That's why I paint. Not on the river banks sadly but within the confines of my room ;-) This picture below is my first oil painting which I did last year ; I took 3 months to complete. I always feel each painting has a life of its own. What intrigues me the most is how everyone relates to it in a different way, often tangential to my own line of thought. One of my friends thought the lady looked like my mother ( My mom was in cloud # 99 hearing that !! ). Yet another thought she looked lifelike and just like a demure coy bride. Another friend didn't like the stones on her ghaghra & wanted the raw finish of just the colours and strokes...

Perspective is a wonderful thing really , isn't it !! :-)

Wow.. nice one. Especially the shadow effect has come out exceptionally well. Depicting the satin/silk is never easy with oil paints and you deserve all the applause for this marvelous fine strokes!

Good going :)

A lazy life is what we all yearn for !! .. being lazy doing stuff that you love at a location of your dreams , with time at a stand still !! :-))
Before get started dreaming , the painting is very nice -- my perspective -- i didn't notice the lady at all , just the lustrous shading on her ghaghra and the melancholy backgrnd with such nice brush strokes :-) .. very nice !!

Art! either as a passion or as a profession could not be attained without the touch of creativity. It's not like other activities; an unique one.

As for your painting, I liked the attire of the bride. She is humble and gentle as her feet are veiled by her flowing dress. Her look is accentuated with the backdrop of mirror and dressing table. You've got a real talent girl :)

PS : You'll wonder of I tell that the word verification for this comment is "dress"

You are yet to gift me one...Pending since a last time..

The shadow effects are really wonderful

Hypermom - thank you so much :) I'm quite proud of it too. Didn't expect it to turn out this well frankly.

Musings of a lonely traveler - Welcome to my blog :)thank you so much for that heartfelt comment. Makes me feel very good. You never said a truer word. Also, every person expresses creativity in a different way. That's what makes it so unique.
Word verfification is 'dress'? Didn't get that..sorry.

Shobha - Thanks dear :) Aah get in line I say .. :-D
