Last weekend , I made my first appearance in a different Govt. school. Here, the students were divided into classes I - IV. Since this was the first visit, we decided to start with some basics. I mean, we obviously didn't want to frighten the kids. Remember how as kids, we evaluated all the new teachers and sized them up in just the first few minutes as a teacher worth respecting or a teacher worth mocking! Multiply that by 100 & you can relate to these adorable devils ;-) Make no mistake, street-smartness runs in their veins!
- We taught them some basic English sentences.
- All the kids recited their ABC's enthusiastically.
- They proved smarter by even shouting out 1-50 on top of their voices.
- They enquired all our names as well as when would we be coming there next !!
Towards the end of the class, I noticed one little boy drawing the 'Taj Mahal' with total concentration. He was finishing the drawing and the colours ready right beside him. I was really impressed. I thought its my duty to encourage a budding artist ;-)
I asked him " What's this? "
Without looking up, " Taj Mahal ".
I complimented , " This is beautiful. You have drawn it very well. "
He looks up this time and smiles. He was so proud of his work ! And why shouldn't he be?!
Curiously, " So, where is this building? Do you know? "
He looked puzzled. I elaborated, " See, we all stay in Bangalore - its a big city with buildings , correct. So similarly, where's this Taj Mahal? "
Pat came the reply sans batting an eyelid , " How do I know !!! Its in this book here & I am just copying it !!! ".
Me - Flabbergasted.
** Evidently I had failed to impress him. Damn! **

haha that's such a cute story! That reminds me of my nephew. One day after church, my father and an older man was having a discussion about a church ethic, and he randomly quipped "I like God because he's a nice person." We have no idea where he got it from but it was too cute. Innocence at hand. =)
